Adaptations:
Name It, Verb It, Finish It structure--to get thesis statement out, help students see the parts of a sentence
Small groups with sentence strips--could use to help students work on analysis
In SSR, have students create a summary at the end
Use with parents. Have child read to them
Chunking text, discussing synonyms and word choice
Burrito fold
Sticky spray--we love that--with sentence strips
4 Step summary process--across disciplines; use as ticket out
Each person writing their own sentence strip
Color coding to name parts, see pieces; use for other things as well
Summaries should show relationships amongst details--discussion to add flow/coherence
Writing folder--put it away and come back to it

Suggestions:
Eliminate cause and effect, made it too complicated, no follow through in last part of lesson
Highlight first detail, then ask for student input
Use same language/terms in all parts of lesson: name it, verb it, finish it
Use authentic text--real author and then summarize together before asking group to do it
More understanding of topic sentence--must reflect what's in the rest of the paragraph
Make list of verbs, assures correct spelling
Lots of places for mini-lessons
